The last few weeks/ months have been rather soul searching. Â Between my monkey incident, planning to go back to Canada for a visit, and health issues of the people I hold dearest in my heart, I have had to try to think about what I am going to do “when I grow up”
A lot of ideas have come and gone through my brain.
Truck driver… the freedom of the open road, seeing new places I have never been, traffic jams, bad weather, sitting for hours on boring hi-ways
Sales Clerk…Â regular hours, regular pay check, dealing with the public…. last time I had a job where I had to deal directly with the public I ending telling someone to go F%$K themselves before I walked out the door
Photography…Â no matter what I do this will be in the mix, but I know what it takes to build up a steady client base to be a commercial or portrait photographer, and I don’t think I have this in me right now. Â I have the talent, but the places I would be most successful I lack the language skills. Â This is still a long term goal, but short term…. no. Â The stock side of my work is doing ok…. less than I want but better than I expected. Â Again this is long term and I need something short or medium term. ( see my portfolio on Shutter Stock)
Teaching English in a school…Â I like teaching, and I am good at it ( which surprises me). Â The problem with teaching is, in the places I want to be, the pay really sucks. Â There is also restrictions on time and travel…you have to be where the students are.
My criteria.. be someplace interesting but not ugly…like a beach or mountain in Colombia, Ecuador or Thailand. Have the freedom to travel when needed and for extended periods of time.  Have the ability to make ok money… I have simple needs, and except for camera equipment, am fairly frugal in my spending.
So what to do? ( I am still waiting to hear about the job I applied for in Waterloo, but since I haven’t heard anything ( though it is vacation time) I have pretty much written it off in my planning. ) Â I think the answer is teaching english on-line.
Teaching english on-line.  According to the internet this is one of the fastest growing segments of the TESL industry ( though how they came up with this, I am not sure)  It suits me, because…a) I like being in front of a computer  b) it works towards a lot of my strengths and c) I can do it anywhere with a good internet connection.
I am developing a road map to work towards this goal, which includes my new site sensei.glennspecht.com. Â I have a lot of work to do to get this happening, but now that I know what I want to do, it is easier to do it.
