I just got around to reading freakanomics…..interesting book.
They were talking about a model for how some industries work (drug dealing in this case). They say that they are basically tournaments.
You have many people at the lower levels, struggling and competing with each other, trying to get to the next round of distributorship….. The next level in the tournament….
At the next level your competition is also better, so you have to improve your game if you want to survive, and move to the next level.
I thought, what a great discription of the photography business.
The next question I asked myself is, where I fit in the field?
Photographic skills….above average but still in need of work…..and always will.
Marketing and business skills…..I suck big time.
So overall where does this put me in the tournament…..likely to get knocked out in the very early rounds….except I don’t want to quit.
