Shinjuku Station

Shinjuku is the next ward ( city?) from where I live.

It is a 18 square kilometers..population 300,000 ( about 17,000 per square KM)

Within Shinjuku there are 4 or 5 metro stations, but the main one is… Shinjuku station.

I have been trying to figure out how to describe it.
I Don’t think there was a grand plan for it, it just kind of happened.
3 or 4 metro lines and the JR train station converge.
The pedestrian tunnels that run from the station go in all directions and several levels.

The nearest explaination I can think of is:
Take the Path in Toronto ( the underground network downtown)
Double it’s size
Fill it with a million people a day ( the JR East gate is supposed to handle that daily) and you have an idea of what it is like.

I have been concentrating on just learning Shinjuku as a starting point for learning the city…and every time I go I am amazed at what I find….

And this is just a small section of Tokyo…
