Harajaku Fashion Show

Harajaku Is a famous section of Tokyo, were tourists flock… mostly to see the goths and others who hang out on the bridge on Sundays.

What the tourists miss is one of the most important fashion shows in the country… maybe the world.

There is a section on one of the streets where photographers from several magazines hang out…all day..every day.

They are looking for interesting street fashion

Fashion “trendsetters” know this as well, so they slowly walk this section, hoping that what they are wearing will catch the eye of one of the “important” photographers.

There are magazines whose content is just made up up of images from the people on this street.  According to a show I saw on NHK, some of the ladies photographed have become celebrities…were their every clothing style makes a full page each issue.

I am not sure who was who, from the hours I watched this bit of theatre, but there were the “hawkers” who would talk to any sweet young thing, to the selectives that would talk to 1 or 2 an hour… to some who didn’t shoot anyone.

I tried to figure out what they were looking for…and failed.  I saw ladies who would look at home on any runway around the world… no one approached… I saw a lady who was just wearing cutoffs and a top, who was approached by 3 different groups… she was well put together clothing wise…but I didn’t see what was the “bling” that caught their eye.

Admittedly I am a non fashion person… maybe even fashion hostile… but I will spend more time trying to see what they are seeing.

A couple more hours watching pretty men and women isn’t a bad way to spend an afternoon.
