It is a great looking day.
I am out, exploring with my camera. Usually I don’t get great shots, but sometimes…..
I tried to find empty store selves…. Could not find any.
I did find line ups for gas, and if my limited Japanese is right, they are limiting it to 20 liters per car.
These are japanse cars so I assume that is close to a fill anyway.
People are out on the streets, smiling, laughing..basically Tokyo seems to be returning to normal.
The biggest difference is the people on street corners asking for donations.
Combined with the politicians electioneering and it is small megaphone wars.
All over you can see people doing things to cut down on power usage.
labi is a big electronics store… It is difficult to hear yourself think in there usually. PA blaring, 500 TVs playing, really brightly lit….. Now there is no PA…. The TVs are black…the lighting is subdued….it is almost a pleasure to shop there.
Mister Donut ( misdo) is only doing take away…. Which is a drag, the Shinjuku Sanchome location is one of my favorite people watching locations.
Train stations, stores all have reduced lighting. Escaltors are turned off. I don’t know if this is from power or that they have not been inspected from all the shaking.
Even the ever present pachinco parlours have turned off their out side lights. The biggest issue that this country faces are the power shortages.
I have not heard how many nuke stations are off line, but until they get some of them back up, manufacturers can’t start up their plants.
I was kinda joking with Kris a couple of days ago, that I wanted to make a big “Free Hugs” sign and stand in Shibuya.
I took the train to Harajiku, and on the bridge were a group of Japanese with “Free Hugs” signs.
After I got my hugs, I walked away towards the shrine.
I thought about things for a few minutes… walked back and asked to join them.
It was a great afternoon… I learned a lot more of the Japanese culture… I made a lot of people smile, even if they didn’t get hugs.
It was cool, until the police shut us down about 3 hours later.
