Just in time

One of the major innovations that japan has provided to the world is Just In Time delivery for manufacturing.

How this works is, if you are running a car factory, you only keep parts on hand for the units you will build for the next few hours or days.
Your suppliers have to have the right number of parts at your door at a specified time. This keeps inventory to a minimum, and cuts down the cost of warehouse space.

It works great when all the suppliers are within miles of each other. The problem for Ontario is the distances between plants…. Basically the 401 has become a giant warehouse on wheels….

In Tokyo, I have noticed a lot of delivery motorbikes going into small food shops.
At first I thought home delivery,and  I am sure some are.

Chris and I were lost trying to find a location. We stopped and asked at a place with a lot delivery bike out front…. The same type I see running into shops and small drinking places.

Looking inside, it was a large kitchen…. What I suspect( and I could be wrong) is at some places when you order food, it is cooked off site and delivered…an efficient use of space and resources.{jcomments on}
