I got to see the Tokyo fire department in action last night.
Pretty impressive
About 3:30 I awoke to the sound of bells and sirens, and the smell of smoke.
After hearing a couple more sirens stop, I grabbed a camera, my coat and boots and went outside
There were already 6 or 8 trucks down the street with more pulling up ( in total 18 to 20 pieces of equipment arrived…. The trucks are small so it takes a few to provide the level of equipment that a Toronto truck has)
A older building in a very narrow street was burning
They had issuses with access…. Not like Toronto where you can pull up a ladder truck and dump thousand of gallons a minute
It took an hour or so to knock it down, but they only had one instance of it spreading to another building
So it was all property damage but no personal damage that I saw What I did see, that I never saw at any other fire I have seen is the number of clipboards, notebooks… It seemed for every fireman manning a hose or ladder, there where 3 or 4 with clipboards or note books writing down stuff
I got a couple of interesting shots… here
