Update-may 22

It has been a few weeks since my last update.  This is for various reasons…loss of Ipad, internet issues at my Casa and just being busy.

Here is a run down of what is happening in my world.

The visit of Pirate Pete and the Princess

A couple of years ago I made one of the best decisions of my life. I joined Mooredale sailing club

Besides learning how to sail, I made connections with some amazing people

Maureen ( Princess) is one of these people. Peter is someone I knew from the club, but not as closely as Maureen.

Maureen knew a lady who was planning on sailing to the south pacific via the Galapagos… And Pete and Maureen signed on.

I was hopping to meet them in the islands, but timing and funds made this idea very difficult for me… Which was a bit disappointing, but….

It seems that the cruise had a few issues so Pete and Maureen jumped ship, and instead of flying back directly to Toronto they decide to come and visit me for a couple of days.

I am very glad they did.

Pete has been in Ecuador before, though not in the southern sierra. This was Maureen’s first visit.

It is interesting to act as a tour guide, to see the place you are through the eyes of others. It helps you realize that the things you think are interesting about a place, others think so as well.

Even though they planned to stay 3days, they enjoyed it so much that they stayed for seven.   We did a few things I had not done before… Horseback riding around Vilcabumba, the Sunday market in saraguo… Hiking on the edge of the amazon in Zamora… And just general looking, poking around in loja

This visit has helped me focus more on what I want/ need to do.

Staying Until August/ September

I am in a good place. I am doing something I like( teaching) with people I like( the students are good and the people I work with and for are great). I just need to supplement my income and I think I could make a decent life here. I have committed to teaching here until August at least. What will happen after that… I am not sure.  This means I will miss a family wedding I would really like to attend.  I just don’t have the funds to afford the flight.  With all that will be happening, I doubt if I will be missed much.

I am in pain again

Last week I was rushing to get to school… I took a little nap and overslept.  The sidewalks here are very uneven.

I tripped and fell.

Several years ago I dislocated my left wrist, and it has always been a bit “tender”.  Landing with my full weight on it has reminded me of past problems with it.  I have full movement and nothing popped out this time.  I am keeping it wrapped which has reduced the swelling, and it is getting better.  I am just getting tired of pain ( those who know me, know of the constant knee/ ankle issues for a large part of my life..those who don’t… I won’t bore you)

I figure a couple of more weeks and I should be back to normal.

I am in good shape

I walk 2-3 Klm a day… to and from school and around the city.  My excess baggage around my middle is slowly going away…

On a hike a few weeks ago, people were talking about how they felt at the end ( tired etc.,) but I felt really good. So I am feeling good about that.

And the future

I am getting some time off in June.  I may, through the school, offer a photography course ( still working out the details).  I am also thinking about spending some time on the coast.

Watch my Facebook for new images as I upload them.
