I went for a train ride Yesterday.
I have a couple of days left on a rail pass I want to use before they expire on Saturday
As I have done in the past, I went to the station and got on the first train that was going some place that I thought might be interesting.
In the past, the trains and how they stay on time is amazing.
Today, it almost felt like VIA rail ( not to slag VIA… JR likely runs more trains in an hour then VIA runs in a year)
Trains were late ( by 15 minutes) revised paper timetables were being posted… Connections were delayed… It was so different from the JR I know.
If I understood the announcements and posted blurbs it may have made more sense to me
I still had a good day and it didn’t detract from what I was doing ( getting lost and found in Japan), I just think it is a sign of Japan adjusting to the post earthquake world, with power restrictions and reduced traffic.
When I made it to the Yokohama on the way home I found the trains there were normal… 4 trains arriving on this track in the next 15 minutes… But only 1 will take me were I want to go. It is the one that leaves at 18:49 not 18:46 or 18:52…. I think…..
