Let’s put things into perspective.
Japan has been rocked with one of the largest earthquakes in history.
The quake itself did little damage. Or the 150+ that came before or after.
The quake caused a massive wall of water to wash up on her shore. This is what caused the damage.
I have just come back to to Tokyo and as I take a look out the window on the train all I see as far as I can is…… Normal, no broken glass, no toppled buildings, everything like a normal Sunday .
Tokyo, was rocked by about a 6 ….buildings moved.. Power was lost, there was a fire or two, but I have only heard of 1 life lost. In a city of 13 million people. ( I don’t understand Japanese media, so this may be wrong)
The trains shutting down was a huge problem, but all the lines had to be checked for damage before they could run again.
10% of the country is in really rough shape. And I don’t think the media is overplaying it. There is a real loss of property…massive… and a substantial loss of life.
This country prepares and plans for earthquakes.
In 90% of the country, life is normal…. Or as normal as it can be after being shaken by solid ground, and seeing what has happened to parts of your country.
Everyone talks about where they were and what their experience was…
But I don’t know a single person who has had a cut or a sprain.
As I talk with people over the week, this may change. The common wish is: Stay safe. – Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
