14:14 I had a meeting with the boss today. The topic was teaching styles, extra activities and how to keep students. He pointed out some things I already knew about the new books, and he suggested ways to deal with them..

One of the problems with the school is the number of students who start VS the number who finish the cycle. I am not sure of the drop rate, but I am sure it is large. He wants the experience to be more exciting or interesting in order to keep the students. I am still processing the information to decide how to work with it… Am I an entertainer or a educator…. ( I have never thought of my myself as either)

14:29 Ontario. In less than a week.

What do I need to do… Not alot really. Since I am taking minimal clothes it makes packing easier.

My mind hasn’t slipped into travel mode… Yet. But it won’t take much to push it there.

I do wonder if I will have much of a culture shock.

I have been asked to pick up some things for people in Loja. Some will be easy…. A t-shirt… Some I said no to…. Motorcycle motor cover.   And then I need to think about what I want to bring back…. Tea is very high on my list. I don’t know if I should buy early to make sure I have it, or wait until the end and buy all I can afford ( it won’t be much) and maybe some spices.

14:59 Ecuadorian time. I am having a tough time adjusting. Students arriving 20 minutes late… Appointments being +/- 1/2 an hour ( usually -) stores and businesses opening around certain times…..maybe… Restaurants that close for lunch…  It can be frustrating.

Ecuadorians are not lazy, in fact when they start working, they work very hard and very long, they just look at time differently… Except for banks.

At the bus station the busses usually leave the platform on time but there is always people running after the bus, some carrying chickens or bananas dragging small children…. And the bus will wait for them so that it can be an extra 5 or 10 minutes until the bus actually leaves the terminal.

22:41 OK time to call it a night.. tomorrow is another day the sun will shine, the breezes will blow

14:33 I am waiting for a friend to show up. He is in the process of moving his studio and I offered to help him organize his new space. I know I am not the worlds best organizer ( those that know me can stop laughing now) but I think that even my limited ability should be able to help. I am still getting used to the idea of Ecuador time. It is normal for business to close at 1 or 1:30 for lunch and not re-open until 2:30 or 3:00 or 3:30 if their siesta went long… In this case I think the family is just so busy that they haven’t made it back yet.

The coming trip to Canada is starting to occupy more of my time and thoughts. What was once a future abstract idea is quickly approaching to be reality. I have to try and save so I have some funds for the trip.

My niece is moving from London to Edmonton with her husband and son. I have been looking at the pics on Facebook and it looks like they have had great weather. It does make traveling easier when the weather is good, especially when you have a long way to go.

17:09 I have a 15 minute walk to the school, which I do 2 to 3 times every day. This is one of the reasons that I think I am in the shape I am.

It also gives me time to think.

On today’s walk, I realize that one of the constants in my life has been photography. The love of it may have ebbed and flowed in my life but since I was 14? Or maybe 16? A camera and photography have been there for me.

When I look at where I am now, and what I think about, plan for, and want to do, photography is an important part.

And the cool thing is, I am not that bad at it.

I can see the English teaching thing becoming boring after awhile, so I need to take this time to work on my next step… To start swimming instead of letting the river carry me.
