As I am trying to figure out my life, all options are on the table.
Some interesting, some scary.
One of the things I have been thinking about is giving up photography. There are many advantages to this.
- Not having to lug equipment around…my pared down travel kit weights about 40 kg…and decisions are always being made about the security of my gear.
- Not having to be depressed about not making it.
- Not having to worry about the time and expense for insurance and upkeep.
- Selling my gear should pay for a one way plane ticket to almost any place in the world.
- Not having to explain what I do ( even though I don’t know what I do)… But I don’t shoot weddings.
As like most addictions, I will likely have to go cold turkey. The more I think about it, the better an idea it is.
The biggest problem is what will I do with my time? First, find a soul sucking job. Then…. Writing? I think I seriously suck as a writer…at least compared to the real talent out there. Knitting? Sculpture? Shoe design? ( I met a lady in Tokyo who had a hobby of designing shoes) This is the hard part.
Photography has been a part of my life for so long that I don’t know….
