Learning to shoot wide

I love telephoto lens

I like the mild compression that an 85 gives to a portrait.

Working outside My 70 to 200 is my lens of choice.

The widest Lens I owned was a 50, and it did not get used alot.

Some of my favourtite images of other photographers  use wide angle.  On m last trip to Japan I also had trouble with space… I could not move back far enough or the room was too small to capture what I wanted.

A few weeks ago I bought a used 35 at MAP Camera.  I decided I need to master the wide(er) angle.

I am not a fan of distorted images, which is why the 35 is as wide as I went. I may move wider..even to a fisheye at some point, but one step at a time.

A couple of things I found out qucikly…

You have to get close to your subject… real close.

Depth of field is more critical

Thinking about how you are pulling people through your image is important ( foreground, mid ground, background)

It has been interesting and has opened up new ways of thinking about images for me.

Some of these images could have been done with a long lens, but there would not have been enough space to frame them…. One of the things about Japan is the lack of space.
