Fashion seems to be an important part of the culture.
Mens fashion, for the most part is boring… dark suits, shirt and tie for work, muted colours for casual.
Womens fashion seems to fall into several gorups
There are shorts, leggings with shoes or boots. Very popular
School girl skirts with leggings ( even if they are past School age)
And then a white coat very put together mature look ( my fav). I saw onw lady on the metro whose shoes, hand bag, and Keitai (cell Phone) all had the same subtle pink tone. Very Well done. I ask my translator (Miyo), if the lady would have several cell phones…. she showed me how the covers can be changed to match your outfit.
The most amazing thing is to see ladies all dressed up, some times in really high heels, riding bikes.
I have no idea how they can pedal.
And another group are the people who dress to live another ” lifestyle” or hobby or, I am not really sure what to call it.
These include the goths, and the rockabilly crowd
