I have been putting a lot of effort into figuring out what equipment to take with me.
My requirements are:
Versatile
Reliable
portable
Ability to provide the light I like.
The kit I am taking consists of:
Pocket wizards ( 2 multi and 2 FlexxTT5)
2 Canon Speed lights (580EX and 580EXII)
2 Vivatar 285
2 umbrellas ( 1 small silver and 1 larger shoot through)
2 Stands ( 1 small background stand and one small normal stand ( this may change depending on luggage weight)
1 grid for my speed light.
Various cables, clamps and connectors.
This will allow me to do shots like:
Set-up 1
Cherry blossom
Girl in Kimono.
Speedlight 1 held behind as back or rim light ( likely shooting into silver umbrella)
Speedlight 2 on camera with grid to provide a slight ” kiss” to the face. ( can be moved off camera if needed)
Sun providing main and fill
Basically a 4 light set-up that is portable.
Set-up 2
In “studio”
Speedlight 1 fired into shoot through.
Speedlight 2 gridded as back/ side
Vivatars as needed as “room” lights.
Set-up 3
Run and gun at shows and festivals.
Speedlight 1 on a stick, held by assistant…. used for back light or side light
Speedlight 2 on camera for main/ fill.
In Saturday’s advance lighting workshop I am going to try all three so that I can work out any possible bugs ahead of time.
I hope to post results.
