On Friday night I was alone in Tzanka, the Eco-refuge where I live. Actually not alone just the only human.
Earlier that night someone delivered a new guest… an Armadillo.
About 1:30 there was a big racket… the sound of falling tin sheets and the screaming of the monkeys. I got up and looked out my window…the cuchucho had shaken the roof off of her cage, onto the cage of the armadillo. and the top of the armadillo’s cage had caved in.
I had to get up to look… when I got to the cage, I lifted parts up hoping not to see anything crushed inside. The good news was there where no animals inside. The bad news was, there were no animals in either the armadillo’s cage, or the cuchucho’s cage.
It is not my job, or responsibility to care for the animals… but I could not, in clear conscience just let them go lose. So I had an interesting night, which included, having the cuchucho on my lap eating cockroaches, listening to the growl of an angry armadillo… watching an owl get freaked out by a cuchucho climbing in its tree…and finding out how strong an armadillo is. I think it is only a baby one as well.

At 3:30 I had both animals in temporary cages that I hoped would keep them from harm.
Then I had to try and sleep while trying hard not to listen to them rattle their cages…
It was very difficult to stay awake at the conference I was attending the next day.
