I like lightroom.

There are better DAM ( Digital Asset Managment) software.  My personal favourite is Media Pro by Iview… which was bought by microsoft… who just sold it to Phase One to be bundled with capture one

072510-111There are better Raw convertors ( Capture One comes to mind)

There is better image manipulation software ( Photoshop)

Envy 0 (0)

Several time over the last week people have told me about how envious they are of what I am doing ( packing up and going on an extended trip)

This has me thinking about my life, and its ups and downs ( right now I will do anything to distract me from packing).

I remember when some of my friends left on an extended trip to Europe, and how I felt then.  I wanted to go so much, especially since I was part of the planning process, but I did not go.

My inability to organize my fiances, my unwillingness to leave the “safety” of where I was, keep me home, instead of on a plane across the ocean.

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes.
Art is know which ones to keep

-Scott Adams

I teach workshop, set up shoots , as well as photograph professionally.

One of the big downsides of shooting for money, where client expectations are high, is you can not make mistakes.

It is the same when teaching workshops.

You will loose credibility if your images suck when you show what you have shot. ( it can be a very humbling and frightening experience to show a room full of photographers your raw images fresh out of the camera)

Toronto- Depression 0 (0)

Having a camera has been an important part of my life… an important part of who I am.

The ability it gave me to interact with people… the freedom it gave me to explore, felt really comfortable

Most of my life I have been happiest with a camera in my hand.

Over the past 2 years I went through a period when I did not want to pick it up…

I was turning away work. It would be weeks between touching my camera.

I did not want to face the my friend ( the camera) it had become my enemy.

It became a chore to do a shoot.

Photography is the capture of light

We can not create photographs without it.
When you go out to create photos, how much effort do you take to look at the light? How often do you position yourself based on how the light is, and how the light will be during the course of the event?

I was out shooting at the Toronto Pride Parade on the July 1 weekend. This was my fourth or fifth time shooting…frankly I was getting bored with what and how I was shooting. Same thing, different year.

I did not have a media pass this year, and had no real plans or agendas.

Photographers Protect Anarchists? 0 (0)

I have been watching the destruction of the Anarchists unfold over the course of the last couple of days… from the safety of my living room. ( except for one excursion to the corner to buy some bread, which is were I captured these images.)

One thing that stuck me was the shear number of amateur photographers in the middle of these events.

img_3210It is easy to pick out the Pros vs the amatuers by their equipment and how they handled themselves.

I am wondering if the number of these “innocent” participants, helped the Anarchists evade police, and actually increased the violence.
