On of the big down sides of submitting to stock is the rejections.
Before you can start selling through an agency you have to approved as a contirbutor.
Some will accept from just about anyone, and accept or reject the image itself.
Others have you send in 3, 4 or 10 images for evaluation before they acept your images
My first application and submition of images was to Shutterstock…before I read all the fine print.
For Shutterstock you send them 10 images and 7 of these 10 have to pass their QC. On my first try I had 6 pass…4 fail ( for valid reasons)
The problem was I submitted 2 that I want to get a reaction to to see if they might be acceptable, instead of sending in strong images.
I now have to wait 30 days before I can resubmit.
With this in mind I then started working on the “lesser” agencies.
I have not finished all my applications, I have been trying 2 or 3 a day. It takes about an hour per agency to fill out the form and try and understand how to submit.
I received this nice rejection from iStock ( who just wanted 3 images)
Thank you for taking the time to apply as a contributor with iStockphoto.com.

Comments from the iStockphoto Administrator:
At this time we regret to inform you that we did not feel the overall composition of your photography or subject matter is at the minimum level of standard for iStockphoto. Please take some time to review training materials, resources and articles provided through iStockphoto. The photographs provided in your application should be diverse in subject matter, technical ability and should be your best work. Think conceptual, creative and most important think Stock photography. Try to avoid the average eye level push the button perspective of a common subject. Try and impress us, we want to see how you stand out from the crowd.
We welcome you to return after the number of days specified and upload 3 fresh samples of your work and we will re-process your application. Please note that you will not be able to upload new samples until this waiting period has passed.

Two or more of these images are very similar in subject matter, perspective or style. We would like to see a demonstrated range of diversity in technical ability and a variety in subject matter. So if you have anything else you can show us we would love to see it.
