I have resisted getting into stock, royalty free and otherwise because…. well I am really not sure why.
After having a few conversations with some photographers who do, and see some forum posting I thought I would try.
What I knew going in… it is time consuming, you need a think skin, and you need to do some research.
I have looked around and plan to submit to 10 or 11 royalty free ( RF ) agencies.

FOTOLIA
Panther Media
Photodune
The 2 big ones ( and the hardest to get accepted ) are shutterstock and iStock.
Most photographers who I talked to said they can make about $100 a month, but with the work they put in it comes out to about $2 an hour…. in Canada that is really bad wages… in Ecuador, it is OK.
I don’t plan to get rich, but a samll steady income is always nice…my expenses are so small here that the funds are useful.
So with this in mind it is time to get started… more to follow.
