It is a nice fall night…. 20 degrees… no wind.
I have the window open and am listening to the sounds of the city.
My apartment in Toronto was near Carlaw and Eastern.Â
At night there was a constant roar, with the occasional louder car, truck or bus going by…. and the fire trucks and ambulances.
Here the loudest constant noise is the sound of crickets.
You can here cars and trucks go by on the street… but they are not as loud.
most of the vehicles seem to be quieter… tough the occasional tuned Harley comes by…
There are a couple of hospitals close, so the ambulance ( and fire trucks) do pass.Â
One thing I like is the level of their sirens.
In Toronto they are almost deafening… conversation has to stop when they go by.
Here I have been talking with some one when a ambulance went by… full siren and lights… and we could still converse.
Beside us is an old time karaoke bar. By old time… they sing Anka music ( likely not spelt properly)…which is an older 30’s and 40’s style.
Sometimes the voices can be heard drifting on the wind…Some times pleasant…some times not.
Another sound is the water running from toilets showers etc from the buildings around us.
Since it doesn’t freeze, all the pipes are on the outside of the buildings. Valuable space is not used for mechanical. ( not so in this house…. but it is of a different era)
I now have to close the window to keep out the ninja mosquitoes… smaller then Canadian ones…but faster
