Tokyo Metro is a world unto itself
Getting from point a to point b can be easy… or may take 3 to 5 train changes.
Chris has a app on his smart phone that tells him
the quickest route
the cheapest route
it is constantly updated so if you miss a train it lets you know when the next one will be ( to the minute)
If you time it right ( or wrong) you can get on a squishy train… a train where you get squished on ( I don`t think this is a japanese term, just an expression of the people I am around.)
On the packed trains you don`t have to worry about falling over…there is no place to fall to. Kinda fun if you are in a good mood…PITA if you are lugging camera gear.
There is a problem with women being gropped on this trains, so the services now provide women only cars for the morning rush. They don`t provide the same service for the rest of the day. There are 3 main rushes… morning, evening, and last train.
The service stops at midnight. People I talked to figure that the taxi lobby keeps this from being changed ( and cabs are expensive here)
So if you are out, and miss your last train you have the choice of:
a) taxi
b) Hotel ( love hotels are popular)
c) Walk ( safe city so a decent choice)
d) All night club or restaruant)
or
e) Internet Cafe.
The Internet Cafe`s have private rooms, easy chairs, hot and cold vending machines, showers… and all the games or movies you want ( so I am told)
